Gioele Amaro is an Italian digital artist. An architect by training, Gioele worked for Jean Nouvel, a notable French architect for 3 years before turning to digital painting.
Gioele Amaro combines traditional media such as painting, photography, drawing and new media by using his mastery of the digital language like computer, graphics tablet and digital brush. By creating a traditional painting with a purely digital approach, Gioele tricked the viewers as they gaze into the abyss of perception. While the works are printed on canvas, he further deceives his audience by applying several layers of varnish or even with paint.
As Marcel Duchamp once wrote: “The creative act is not performed by the artist alone; the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act.” In short, “it’s the viewer who does the work.”
