Delphine Rama is a Belgian artist that lives and works in Singapore. The work of this young Belgian artist is constantly evolving, as she experiments and pushes the boundaries of her own artistic expression. The composition and the choice of colours is profoundly researched. Warmer and cooler colours are constantly battling to provide the audience with a sense of visual equilibrium. In addition, her forms are geometric, almost seeking perfection. Yet upon closer inspection, one can see the irregularities of the medium. This provides a sense of materiality to her paintings.
In the beginning, Rama was interested in learning illustration and photography. This visual approach lead her artistic research and practice towards painting where she could break free from the basic aesthetic rules. She began to be receptive to the abstract movement from the last century, mainly influenced by artists such as Raymond Art or Jo Delahault among others, inspired by the idea that abstraction does not recognize any reference to the visible world.
Rama’s abstract paintings are also inspired by another one of her passsions: Fashion. “I have always been fascinated by the stories of fashion designers; the colour range used in certain collections inspire me,” says Rama.
Delphine Rama was born in Liege, Belgium in 1988. She now lives and works in Singapore. After studying architecture, she obtained a Fine Arts degree from the prestigious Académie Royale des Beaux Arts in Brussels. Her works have been exhibited internationally, and she was part of the Biennale in Mobilart.
Her geometrical forms, inspired by her love of architecture remains, but one can clearly see a shift towards a more existential exploration of the self.
