SEA Focus 2025: Khairulddin Wahab and Shen Jiaqi

Cuturi Gallery is proud to make its debut at S.E.A. Focus 2025 with a showcase of works by two Singaporean artists: Khairulddin Wahab and Shen Jiaqi.
 
Aligned with the theme "Disconnected Contemporaries," curated by John Tung, Khairulddin Wahab (b. 1991) delves into the complex historical geographies of the tropics. His work examines how the tropical imaginary has been constructed, regulated, and shaped by Western knowledge, institutions, and scholarship through systems of representation.
 
Shen Jiaqi (b. 1989) reflects on the significant cultural imprint of shopping centres on the Singaporean psyche. Her series investigates shopping malls in Singapore as an evolving metaphor for the nation’s collective consciousness, transitioning from the liberated consumerism of the 1980s to sanctuaries for youth subcultures, and ultimately to present-day structures of commercial monotony.
 
S.E.A. Focus is a leading showcase and art market hub dedicated to Southeast Asian contemporary art. It aims to bring together a fine curation of established and emerging artistic talents to foster a deeper appreciation of contemporary art and artists in the region. As the anchor event of the Singapore Art Week, it offers an exciting and complementary blend of art experiences for collectors, artists, galleries and the public.
 
The artists' works will be on view at Tanjong Pagar Distripark from 18 to 26 January 2025.
