This beautiful and unique exhibition by the talented artist Hubert Le Gall was meant to take place in May 2020 and run through the summer. Due to the current situation, the exhibition was rescheduled to the summer of 2021.It is now open to the public at the magnificent Villa Kerylos and will be running until September 26th.
The Villa Kérylos is an exceptional monument located in the South of France. Kérylos in Greek means ‘Kingfisher of the Sea’. The Villa was built in the early 1900s by French Archeologist Theodore Reinach and his wife Fanny Kann, from the Ephrussi family. Reinach was a lover of Greek architecture and selected the architect Emmanuel Pontremoli who reimagined a Greek noble house from drawings he obtained whilst travelling in Asia Minor. Today, the Villa Kerylos is owned by the Institut de France and is a public museum.
Two years ago, Hubert Le Gall was given the unique opportunity to create a new set of artworks designed to resonate with the surrounding Greek architecture and echo stories behind this unique monument. For Hubert Le Gall, this is an invitation to travel to a re-interpreted Greece. This exhibition allows him to use his poetic imagination to reinterpret some of the most famous mythological stories.
