Local artist and 2018 UOB Painting of the Year winner Khairulddin Wahab is holding his first solo exhibition, The Word for World is Forest. Inspired by the 1972 novel of the same name by American science fiction writer Ursula K. Le Guin, it examines our relationship with the natural environment through Singapore’s colonial history, the capitalist economy, and the scientific knowledge that guide our understanding of nature. Accompanying the exhibition is a publication featuring essays by curator Tony O’Dempsey, who is also an environmental consultant involved in environmental impact studies in Singapore.
